Congratulations to our Camogie team that won their county final in Castlebar.

Well done. We are very proud of you.

Dear parent,

We are already into our third week of the final term. The weeks are flying by. It is always our busiest term and it is great that there are so many activities for the kids to do. Often, it is the memories from these events that the children remember most fondly of their time in school.

First Communion

We would like to congratulate the second-class pupils who received the sacrament of Communion last Saturday. Fr. Britus celebrated a lovely ceremony which was complimented by the choir and Ciaran O’Malley with music. Thank you to Mrs. McConnell for preparing the Communion recipients and to Ms. O’Malley for organising the choir.

Thank you also to the Parents Association for organising tea and refreshments in the Community Centre after the ceremony.

Our Class Book

The senior class wrote their own book as part of the Our Class Book initiative. The title of their books is ‘When I Grow Up’. The children wrote about their future and drew a picture to accompany the text. The book is with the publisher who will create a lovely colourful memento for the children.

Swimming

Swimming is going very well. Children have shown great independence organising themselves before and after the swimming lessons. The girls’ changing room is supervised by the Mrs. McConnell / Ms. Harnedy / Ms. McPhillips / Sharon and the boys’ changing room by Mr. Hynes. We have the pool and changing rooms to ourselves during the lessons.

Bike Week

It is national Bike Week from the 13th to 20th of May.

The Junior Infants can bring their bikes to school on Wednesday the 18th May. The Middle and Senior room can bring their bikes to school on Thursday the 19th May. Infants and middle classes will practice basic skills and road safety on the yard.

The senior class may also have an opportunity to cycle on the road.

Class Allocation

Ms. McPhillips is taking a career break during the next school year, September 2022, which will require a replacement teacher to be appointed. Due to the workings of the Department, the teacher supply panels we will not be in a position to appoint a temporary teacher until late in the summer. As soon as a teacher has been appointed, we will let you know.

In September Mr. Hynes will be teaching the senior classroom (4th, 5th & 6th).

Ms. O’Malley will take over as the Special Education Teacher.

Mrs. McConnell will move into the Junior Room (Junior & Senior infants).

Lake Walk / Family Fun Day

The Lake Walk has been rescheduled for the Bank Holiday Monday on June 6th. We hope you can join us to walk, run or cycle. It is a great opportunity for parents to meet and welcome our new families to the school. Refreshments will be served in the school yard after.

A Welcome Morning for new infants is organised for Tuesday the 7th of June. New infants will get an opportunity to meet their teacher and have a look around the classroom and school.

School Tour

Our school tour is on the 10th of June in the GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan. All pupils from Junior to Sixth Class will be going on the day which is organised by the Just4Fun School / Summer Tour company. We would like to thank the Parents Association for covering the cost of the bus which has greatly subsidised the tour. We are sure the kids will have a great day.
